Profile

Abigail Rawleigh is a Ph.D. student specializing in Early American Literature. She is particularly interested in the intersection of religion and literature in New England Puritanism. Her undergraduate thesis focused on the use of marital metaphors to describe the movement of the human soul towards union with God in the poetry of Edward Taylor. More recently, she has become interested in the way in which metaphors of embodiment and sense-experience are used to describe spiritual experiences in poetry and prose written in the 17th and 18th centuries.
