Profile

Claudia Carroll is a PhD student in English Literature at the University of Notre Dame. Her research focuses on the nineteenth century British novel through a narrative theory and cognitive science lens. She is currently working on a dissertation on why characters feel real to readers of the Victorian novel. Previous projects include a paper on the formal implementation of theories of sympathy in first-person narration, and the use of aesthetics as social currency in Elizabeth's Gaskell's North and South.
