Profile

Michelle Marvin is an interdisciplinary scholar whose work brings together the fields of writing studies, theology, and science. Her current research focuses on environmental and sustainability rhetoric, in which she studies how messaging shapes our response to ecological issues. As a Writing Center administrator, Michelle is actively working to understand the benefits and drawbacks of AI on writing practices and implement effective program assessment measures. 

As a professor, Michelle teaches multimedia writing and rhetoric courses and leads graduate workshops in scientific and technical communication. She serves as faculty in Notre Dame's Inspired Leadership Initiative (ILI), where she co-teaches a Great Books course, introducing adult fellows to foundational texts of the liberal arts. Additinally, she co-leads a humanities writing course for the Warrior-Scholar Project, aimed at assisting military veterans in transitioning to college life. Michelle deeply values literature and writing as a means of fostering critical thinking, effective communication, and lifelong learning among students of all ages and backgrounds. 

Michelle's scholarly recognitions include a National Endowment for the Humanities Postdoctoral Fellowship in Catholic Studies, a Louisville Institute Dissertation Fellowship, and a Templeton Religion Trust Doctoral Fellowship.
