Profile

Anna Hayden is a second-year Ph.D. student at the University of Notre Dame. Her research interests center on alchemy and alchemical writing in relation to early modern women and female autonomy. Through an intersectional lens, namely in terms of race, gender, class, and sexuality, Anna seeks to analyze alchemical terms, poetry, and recipes as means of exploring the gaps in scholarly research of seventeenth-century female writers while challenging patriarchal narratives. She is excited to further delve into the work of writers such as Hester Pulter, Katherine Philips, and Margaret Cavendish.
