Profile
Carter Gage is a Predoctoral Associate of the University Writing Program at the University of Notre Dame.
His research aims to analyze the shifting economic, social, and spatial contexts of the Irish port space over the course of James Joyce’s work, bridging a significant gap between historical analyses of international economic circulation and spatial and symbolic analyses of Joyce’s local Dublin. Gage received UNM’s Joseph C. Gallagher Scholarship for Study in Ireland and Europe in 2024, and his undergraduate thesis was awarded the Elsie Fraley Demas Scholarship for Outstanding Undergraduate Research in May 2026. He has also guest-lectured on Joyce’s evolving prose styles and lingering aesthetic influence at the University of Iowa’s Summer 2026 Young Writers Workshop.
