Jane Turula

Profile

During Jane Turula’s time assisting and teaching classes at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, she encouraged students to embrace their intuitions and pursue whatever topics caught their attention, no matter how strange or mundane. It is her belief that every voice is interesting and worth listening to, even ⁠— and especially ⁠— students getting acquainted with writing and rhetoric for the first time. With an academic background in both English literature and film production, she embraces a multimedia approach to learning, with an emphasis on metacognition throughout the learning process.

Jane Turula is an English PhD candidate at Notre Dame, whose dissertation seeks to define a poetic proximity between literary representations of Mary, the Mother of God, and the allegorical goddess Fortune in the Middle Ages. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies from the Golden Age of Hong Kong cinema, discovering all the different sounds animals make with her toddler, and singing her favorite parts of Don Giovanni in terrible falsetto.
