Profile

Drawn to education through a love of literature and social justice, Jessica Thomas began teaching in high-risk schools in Indianapolis. This formation instilled a student-centered approach to research and pedagogy that shaped her 17 years of teaching high school English. As an English Department Chair, Jessica engendered department culture that focused on community and development of the whole student through book studies, peer coaching, teacher mentorship, and inquiry-based learning. For over 10 years, Jessica has also taught graduate students in methods of teaching reading and writing. Jessica is an alumna of the National Writing Project; a former Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate instructor; and a presenter on writing and reading pedagogy.
