Lillian Hammen

Profile

Lillian Hammen is a second-year PhD student in English with a Graduate Minor in Gender Studies. She holds an MA in Medieval Literatures and Languages from the University of York and a BA in English and in Philosophy from Sewanee: The University of the South. Her MA dissertation, “Skilled Smiths and Princes of Elves: The Wayland-legend and the First Age of Middle-earth” has been published by the Journal of Tolkien Research. While her primary area of study is Old English and Old Norse poetry, she is also interested in literary representations of gender in early medieval literature, translation studies, writing pedagogy, wisdom poetry, Tolkien studies, and the postmedieval afterlives of early medieval literature.
